Who We Are (con't)

A Friendly Caring Family…

EUM is a friendly group of people who truly care for one another. Our fellowship is much like a family that values community, informality, fun, and commitment. EUM is a place where you can be yourself and be accepted.  Through small groups like Sunday school classes, Bible studies and fellowship groups we build trusting relationships that allow us to know one another and to be known. We encourage one another, lift each other up, forgive one another, and love each other; always striving to become more like Jesus.

“Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you.” Romans 15:7 (NRSV)

“that the members should have the same care for one another” 1 Corinthians 12:25 (NASB)

A Growing, Diverse Celebration…

EUM is a diverse group of people growing together in the Lord. We realize that we don’t have it all together, nor do we pretend to. Rather, we understand that all of us make mistakes and everyone can be forgiven. Our goal is to continually mature in the faith regardless of our backgrounds, our abilities, our economic status or our station in life. For in Christ we recognize that there are no barriers and that He loves us all. We celebrate our uniqueness as well as his greatness in all that we do.

“Our hope is that, as your faith continues to grow, our area of activity among you will greatly expand.” 2 Corinthians 10:15 (NIV)

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

A United Methodist Church…

As a United Methodist church we are part of the larger body of Christian believers. We are one denomination among many, each having unique gifts and emphasis. There are over 37,000 United Methodist Churches in the US alone.

As United Methodist we believe that the living core of Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience and confirmed by reason. These four areas guide our life, help us make decisions and are the criteria for our beliefs. First and foremost Scripture is primary, revealing the Word of God to us. All other aspects of our faith must line up with this. Second, Tradition provides both a source and a measure of authentic Christian witness, as long as it remains faithful to the Biblical message. Third, our own human Experience adds flesh to our beliefs and applies them into daily living. Fourth, Reason qualifies our beliefs so that we do not blindly chase after every wind and doctrine. The interaction of these four areas allows United Methodists to be confident that what we believe makes sense in life.

For more than 200 years the United Methodist Church and it’s predecessor bodies have expressed concern for the sick, the poor, the orphaned, the aging, the impaired, the oppressed and the imprisoned. Our founder John Wesley’s (1703-1791) spiritual emphasis included:

  • A faith that is both informed and warmly experienced
  • A religion that is intensely personal but must be shared with others
  • A concern for the spiritual, physical, and social concerns of all persons

Therefore as a United Methodist Church we share a rich heritage with others and a strong faith in Christ. We are a diverse community, who is ecumenical in nature, mission-oriented, socially conscious, involved and evangelical. These qualities have guided millions of people into a meaningful and wonderful relationship with God.
